Sitting Shoulders Stretch on Bench

Seated on the floor with the knees bent and the hands behind on the edge of a bench, the chest pushes up and forward; the higher support opens the front of the shoulders further.

How to do it

Setup

Seated on the floor in front of a bench, knees bent, feet flat, hands behind on the bench edge with the fingers forward.

Steps

  1. Press the chest up and forward between the arms.
  2. Draw the shoulder blades together and down.
  3. Hold and breathe, then ease the chest back.

Common mistakes

Shoulders rolling up to the ears: set them down before pushing the chest. Bent elbows taking the weight: keep the arms straight. Forcing the chest through a pinch at the front of the shoulder: sit closer to the bench.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
