Single-Leg Calf Stretch

Kneeling on one knee with the other leg straight out in front on its heel, the hands on the floor, the hips ease back; the calf and the back of the straight leg stretch.

How to do it

Setup

On one knee, the other leg straight in front with the heel down and the toes up, hands on the floor either side.

Steps

  1. Ease the hips back over the down knee until the front leg is fully straight.
  2. Keep the toes of the front foot pulled up toward you.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Front knee bending: keep the leg straight so the calf and the hamstring stretch. Rounding the back to reach lower: keep it long and let the hips move back. Down knee on a hard floor: pad it with a folded mat.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
