Shoulder Backbend Stretch

Standing tall with the straight arms overhead and the palms together, ease the arms back behind the ears; the lats and the fronts of the shoulders lengthen.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, both arms straight overhead, palms together.

Steps

  1. Reach the hands up tall.
  2. Ease the straight arms back until they pass behind the ears.
  3. Hold and breathe, then bring the arms forward and down.

Common mistakes

Leaning the whole trunk back: stand tall and let only the shoulders open. Palms coming apart: keep them pressed together so the arms stay straight. Head pushing forward between the arms: keep the chin level.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
