Russian Twist (On Stability Ball, Arms Straight)

The stability ball version of the Russian twist: bridged with the upper back on the ball, palms pressed together on straight arms, you roll from shoulder to shoulder.

How to do it

Setup

Upper back on the ball, feet flat, knees at about 90°, body straight from the shoulders to the knees, arms straight above the chest with the palms together.

Steps

  1. Rotate the chest and arms to one side, rolling onto that shoulder.
  2. Hold the hips up at shoulder height through the turn.
  3. Come back to the middle and roll to the other shoulder.

Common mistakes

Hips dropping as you turn: keep one line from the shoulders to the knees. Arms bending to reach farther: they stay straight with the palms together, and the chest does the turning. Rolling off the top of the ball: move a little at a time and set the feet wide.

Breathing

Exhale on each twist, inhale through the middle.
