Medicine Ball Split Stance Torso Twist
In a split stance, turn a medicine ball held at arm's length from side to side; the hips stay square while the chest turns.
How to do it
Setup
Split stance, a medicine ball held out in front of the chest on nearly straight arms.
Steps
- Turn the ball and chest toward the front leg's side.
- Pass back through the middle.
- Turn toward the back leg's side, hips still square.
Common mistakes
Hips turning with the ball: squeeze the back glute to lock them. Arms swinging the ball ahead of the chest: the trunk leads, the arms follow. Front knee caving in: keep it over the foot.
Breathing
Exhale on each twist, inhale through the middle.
