Revolved Side Angle Pose Parivrtta Parsvakonasana

From a low lunge, twist the chest toward the front leg with the opposite elbow outside the knee, then straighten the back leg and reach the top arm overhead.

How to do it

Setup

In a low lunge, back knee on the floor, front knee over the ankle, palms together at the chest.

Steps

  1. Twist and hook the opposite elbow outside the front knee.
  2. Lift the back knee and press the back heel away.
  3. Place the lower hand on the floor outside the foot and reach the top arm over the ear.
  4. Hold and breathe, then unwind and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Front knee drifting inward past the toes: keep it over the ankle. Twisting from the neck: turn the ribs first; the head follows. Back leg sagging: press the back heel away, the leg straight.

Breathing

Inhale to lengthen, exhale to twist deeper.
