Resistance Band Single-Arm Overhead Shoulder Press

The single-arm overhead press against a tube band with handles: one handle is pressed up while the free hand pins the other at the hip.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on the middle of the band, one handle at the shoulder, the other held down at the opposite hip.

Steps

  1. Press the handle straight up until the arm locks out overhead.
  2. Keep the lower hand pinned so the band stays anchored.
  3. Lower to the shoulder slowly; finish the set, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Leaning toward the lower hand as the band stretches: stand tall with level shoulders. Lower hand drifting up with the press: pin it to the hip. Letting the band snap the handle back down: resist it all the way to the shoulder.

Breathing

Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
