Resistance Band Isometric Thumb Extension

A static hold for the thumb: a band hooked over it is held by the other hand, and the thumb presses out against it without moving.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, hands in front of the waist, a small band looped over one thumb and held taut by the other hand.

Steps

  1. Press the thumb outward into the band.
  2. Hold the push steady; the thumb stays where it is.
  3. Hold and breathe; time it.
  4. Do the same on the other thumb.

Common mistakes

Jerking against the band: build the push smoothly. The thumb bending at its tip: press with the whole thumb straight. Band slipping off the thumb: hook it further down before you start.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
