Potty Squat

A bodyweight squat that sits the hips far back as if onto a low seat, the arms swinging forward for balance.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms out to the sides at shoulder height.

Steps

  1. Sit the hips back and down, swinging the arms forward to shoulder height.
  2. Stop with the thighs about halfway to level, the chest leaning over the knees.
  3. Stand back up and open the arms out to the sides.

Common mistakes

Knees shooting forward first: the hips lead the way back. Heels lifting as you sit back: weight over the middle of the foot. Rounding the back to reach forward: long spine; the arms only balance.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
