Plate-Loaded Shoulder Press

The machine press loaded with plates rather than a stack; the feel sits closer to free weights.

How to do it

Setup

Seated in the plate-loaded press, handles at shoulder height, feet planted.

Steps

  1. Press both levers to lockout, or one at a time.
  2. Match the weaker side's pace.
  3. Return into the stretch without the plates crashing.

Common mistakes

Uneven plates: check both arms' load. The strong side finishing alone: the levers expose it; slow down. Bouncing the bottom: smooth turns.

Breathing

Exhale pressing, inhale returning.
