Pilates Machine Side Split
Standing astride a Pilates reformer, one foot on the fixed platform and one on the carriage, the legs slide apart into a wide straddle and draw back in.
How to do it
Setup
Standing on the reformer, one foot on the platform and one on the carriage, arms out at shoulder height.
Steps
- Press the carriage out, the legs sliding apart evenly.
- Stop where the inner thighs stretch, the trunk upright.
- Draw the carriage back in with the inner thighs, under control.
Common mistakes
Letting the springs snap the carriage home: resist it all the way in. Leaning the trunk to one side: keep it centered over both feet. Going wider than you can pull back from: stop short of that point.
Breathing
Inhale opening, exhale closing.
