Mid Back Elbow Squeeze

Standing, the arms go from straight out at shoulder height to the elbows pulled down beside the ribs, squeezing the shoulder blades together.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms straight out to the sides at shoulder height, palms down.

Steps

  1. Pull the elbows down to the ribs, forearms pointing out to the sides.
  2. Squeeze the shoulder blades together and down for a beat.
  3. Reach the arms back out to shoulder height.

Common mistakes

Shrugging as the elbows drop: the shoulders go down, away from the ears. Arching the lower back to squeeze: keep the ribs down. Arms sagging below shoulder height at the start: reset them level each rep.

Breathing

Exhale on the squeeze, inhale opening.
