Lying Leg Raise, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Lie on your back, legs straight, hands at your sides or under the lower back; press the lower back into the floor.

Steps

  1. Raise the straight legs to vertical.
  2. Lower them slowly, stopping just above the floor.
  3. Keep the lower back pressed down the whole time.

Common mistakes

Lower back arching off the floor: raise the legs less deep or bend the knees slightly. Swinging the legs up: lift slow, no momentum. Holding the breath at the bottom: keep it flowing.

Breathing

Exhale as the legs rise, inhale as they lower.
