Lying Lat Pulldown

Face down with the chest and arms off the floor, draw the elbows down to the ribs as if pulling a bar; a no-equipment drill for the pulldown's path.

How to do it

Setup

Face down, legs long, chest lifted a little, arms reaching overhead just off the floor.

Steps

  1. Pull the elbows down and back toward the ribs.
  2. Squeeze the blades down and together for a beat.
  3. Reach the arms long overhead again without touching down.

Common mistakes

Cranking the head up: eyes on the floor, neck long. Arms dropping to the floor between reps: keep them hovering. Arching hard through the lower back: lift the chest only a little.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale reaching.
