Incline Push-Up

Hands raised on a bench or bar; the higher the hands, the lighter the push-up – the regression that keeps form clean.

Incline Push-Up, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Hands on a bench or bar, body one straight line to the heels.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest to the edge.
  2. Keep the plank line the whole way.
  3. Press to lockout; lower the incline over weeks to progress.

Common mistakes

Hips sagging: easier does NOT mean sloppier. Standing too upright to feel it: walk the feet back. Staying at one height forever: the incline is a ladder; climb down it.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
