Feet-Up Barbell Bench Press

Bench press with the feet off the floor; without leg drive the chest does the work and the arch flattens out.

How to do it

Setup

Bench press setup, feet OFF the floor – crossed in the air or flat on the bench.

Steps

  1. Lower the bar to the mid-chest with no leg drive to lean on.
  2. Touch light.
  3. Press to lockout with the chest alone.

Common mistakes

Loading like the planted version: the missing leg drive is the point; drop plates. Body rolling on the bench: slower, tighter. Arch chasing: the flat back is the variant's honesty.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale pressing.
