Hip and Knee Flexion Squatting Stretch

Sink into a deep squat with the fingers down, then straighten the legs into a fold; the hips and the hamstrings open in turn.

How to do it

Setup

Deep squat, feet shoulder-width, heels down, fingertips on the floor between the feet.

Steps

  1. Keep the hands down and straighten the legs, hips rising.
  2. Pause where the backs of the legs stretch.
  3. Bend the knees and sink back into the squat, chest between the knees.

Common mistakes

Heels lifting in the squat: widen the stance until they stay down. Knees snapping straight: straighten them slowly and stop short of a lock. Hands leaving the floor: straighten the legs only as far as the fingers stay down.

Breathing

Exhale straightening the legs, inhale sinking back.
