High Lunge

A lunge held with the hands down beside the front foot and the back knee lifted off the floor; the front of the back hip stretches.

How to do it

Setup

Front foot between the hands, front knee over the ankle, the back leg long on the ball of the foot.

Steps

  1. Press the back heel away to straighten the back leg.
  2. Sink the hips forward and down, keeping them level.
  3. Hold and breathe, then step back and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Front knee drifting past the toes: move the foot forward until the shin is upright. Back knee sagging toward the floor: push the heel back and keep the leg straight. Hips hanging low and loose: keep them level and firm.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
