Heel Touches

Lying with knees bent and shoulders slightly raised, reach alternately for your left and right heel – the obliques do the work.

Heel Touches, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

On your back, knees bent, feet flat; shoulders slightly off the floor.

Steps

  1. Reach sideways for the left heel, bending the torso, not twisting it.
  2. Return to the middle.
  3. Reach for the right heel; keep the shoulders off the floor throughout.

Common mistakes

Shoulders dropping to rest between reps: the obliques switch off; stay lifted. Rushing side to side: slow, feel each side bend. Chin jammed to the chest: keep a fist of space.

Breathing

Exhale toward each heel, inhale through the middle.
