Good Morning Squat
A good morning that turns into a squat: hinge to a flat back, sink the hips into a squat from there, then stand; hands behind the head.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet shoulder-width, fingers laced lightly behind the head, elbows wide.
Steps
- Push the hips back and hinge until the back is near parallel.
- From the hinge, bend the knees and sink into a squat.
- Drive up through the whole foot.
Common mistakes
Rounding the back in the hinge: flat back first, depth second. Knees shooting forward the moment the squat starts: sit the hips down between the heels. Yanking on the neck with the hands: they rest behind the head.
Breathing
Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
