Good Morning

Bar on the back; hinge at the hips with a flat back until the torso nears horizontal, then drive back up.

Good Morning, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the upper back as for squats, feet hip-width, knees soft.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back, folding the torso toward parallel.
  2. Keep the back flat and the bar over mid-foot.
  3. Drive the hips forward to stand.

Common mistakes

Bending at the spine instead of the hips: the fold is a hinge; chest stays long. Knees locking straight: soft angle, fixed. Going heavier than the hamstrings allow: this is a light, strict lift.

Breathing

Inhale hinging down, exhale driving up.
