Kettlebell Straight-Leg Deadlift

The straight-leg deadlift with one kettlebell held by the handle in both hands between the legs; the single bell hangs at the center, so the hinge stays square.

How to do it

Setup

Feet a little wider than the hips, one bell held by the handle in both hands, arms long, knees nearly straight.

Steps

  1. Hinge forward, letting the bell sink straight down between the legs.
  2. Stop when the hamstrings pull tight, back flat.
  3. Drive the hips through to stand, the bell staying close.

Common mistakes

Swinging the bell: it lowers and rises in a straight line; this is not a swing. Knees bending to go deeper: the range ends at the stretch. Shoulders rounding over the bell: chest long, blades back.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
