Extension of Arms in Vertical Stretch

Straight arms press up overhead with one hand stacked on the other, reaching tall through the fingertips; the arms, forearms and the sides of the back lengthen.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms straight overhead, one hand resting on the other, palms up.

Steps

  1. Press the stacked hands straight up toward the ceiling.
  2. Keep the arms by the ears and the ribs down.
  3. Hold and breathe, then let the arms float down.

Common mistakes

Arching the lower back to reach higher: the ribs stay down; the arms do the reaching. Bent elbows: press them straight. Shoulders shrugged tight to the ears: reach up, but let the neck stay long.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
