Dumbbell Sumo Squat off Benches

The dumbbell sumo squat standing with one foot on each of two benches, so the bell can sink below the feet for a deeper squat.

How to do it

Setup

One foot on each of two parallel benches, stance wide and toes out, a dumbbell held by one end between the legs.

Steps

  1. Squat down, letting the bell sink between the benches.
  2. Keep the knees pushed out over the toes and the chest up.
  3. Drive up through the heels to standing.

Common mistakes

Benches uneven or unstable: use matching, solid benches set to the width of the stance. Knees caving at the bottom: drive them out. Rounding to chase depth: stop where the back stays flat.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
