Decline Bent-Leg Reverse Crunch

The reverse crunch on a decline bench, head at the high end and knees bent; the slope makes the pelvis climb, a harder lift than on the floor.

How to do it

Setup

On a decline bench with the head at the top, hands gripping the bench behind the head, knees bent over the hips.

Steps

  1. Draw the pelvis up the slope until the knees reach the chest.
  2. Keep the knees bent at the same angle throughout.
  3. Lower the hips back down the slope slowly.

Common mistakes

Swinging the legs up the slope: pause at the bottom and curl the pelvis. Pulling hard on the bench with the arms: they anchor, the abs lift. Slamming the hips back down: lower as slowly as you curl.

Breathing

Exhale curling up, inhale lowering.
