Deadlift High Pull, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Deadlift setup, grip just outside the legs, back flat.

Steps

  1. Deadlift the bar past the knees.
  2. Keep pulling – elbows high – to chest height.
  3. Lower along the body in two stages.

Common mistakes

Two separate lifts: one accelerating pull, floor to chest. Elbows below wrists at the top: elbows LEAD. Heavy grinding: this is a speed builder; keep it crisp.

Breathing

Breath at the floor, exhale at the top.
