Chest Dip

Dip with the torso leaning forward and the elbows flaring slightly; the lean moves the load from the triceps to the chest.

Chest Dip, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

On the bars, torso LEANED forward, chin tucked, legs back.

Steps

  1. Lower with the elbows flaring slightly out.
  2. Feel the chest stretch at the bottom.
  3. Press up keeping the forward lean.

Common mistakes

Standing upright mid-set: the lean IS what makes it chest; keep it. Diving too deep: the front shoulder pays; stretch, not strain. Chin up: tucked keeps the lean.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale on the press.
