Cable Rear Lunge from Stepbox

Facing a cable stack with the handle held at the chest, step back off a step box into a deep reverse lunge; the cable pulls you forward, so the trunk has to stay upright.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on a step box facing a cable stack, the handle held at the chest with both hands, the cable taut.

Steps

  1. Step one foot back off the box into a deep lunge, the front foot staying on it.
  2. Lower the back knee toward the floor, the chest up against the pull.
  3. Drive through the front foot to step back up onto the box.

Common mistakes

Box too high for a controlled step back: start low. Leaning toward the stack: brace the trunk against the cable. Back foot searching for the floor: step straight back and look ahead.

Breathing

Inhale stepping back, exhale driving up.
