Cable Lying Fly

The flat-bench fly between the low pulleys; unlike dumbbells, the cables keep pulling at the top, where the arms meet.

How to do it

Setup

Flat bench centered between the low pulleys, a handle in each hand, arms wide.

Steps

  1. Close the arms until the handles touch above the chest.
  2. Pause with the cables still pulling outward.
  3. Lower the arms out wide to a light stretch.

Common mistakes

Arms dropping below the bench: the stretch stops at shoulder level. Bench off-center: the cables pull unevenly; center it. Elbows bending into a press: keep them soft and fixed.

Breathing

Exhale on the squeeze, inhale opening.
