Dumbbell One-Arm Low Fly

The standing low-to-high fly with one dumbbell; the bell sweeps up and across toward the middle while the trunk stays square.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, one bell at the side, palm forward, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Sweep the bell up and in to shoulder height in front of the chest.
  2. Pause with the arm still softly bent.
  3. Lower it to the side; finish the set, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Leaning away from the bell to lift it: stay upright. Twisting toward the working arm: hips and shoulders face forward. Heaving the bell with a swing: a slow, even arc.

Breathing

Exhale on the sweep up, inhale lowering.
