Bicycle Crunch

Alternate elbow to opposite knee while the other leg extends; the rotation is the point, not the speed.

Bicycle Crunch, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

On your back, hands behind the head, legs lifted, knees bent.

Steps

  1. Bring one elbow toward the opposite knee while the other leg extends.
  2. Rotate through the torso, not the arms.
  3. Alternate sides in a steady rhythm.

Common mistakes

Elbows flapping: the SHOULDER travels to the knee. Pedaling too fast: slow rotation keeps the obliques on. Pulling the neck: hands only rest.

Breathing

Exhale on each rotation, inhale switching.
