Barbell Squat with Chains

The back squat with chains hung from the bar's ends; more links leave the floor as you stand, so the load climbs toward lockout.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the upper back, chains on both ends, a few links on the floor even at the top.

Steps

  1. Brace and squat as the chains pile onto the floor.
  2. Reach full depth under control.
  3. Drive through the top, where the chains weigh most.

Common mistakes

Chains swinging: let them settle before each rep. Easing off near the top: the load grows there; keep driving. Uneven chains: the bar tips; hang both ends the same.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
