Barbell Rear Delt Raise

A bar held behind the thighs is lifted up the back by drawing the elbows up and back; a short pull for the rear delts.

How to do it

Setup

Stand tall, the bar behind the thighs in an overhand grip, hands shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Draw the elbows up and back, lifting the bar along the back.
  2. Keep the bar brushing the body; stand tall.
  3. Lower the bar slowly to the thighs.

Common mistakes

Leaning forward to find room: stand tall; the range is short. Shrugging the bar up: the elbows do the lifting, not the traps. Bar drifting off the body: keep it close all the way.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
