Barbell Pullover
Lying on a flat bench, sweep the barbell on nearly straight arms from above the chest to behind the head and back; the lats and the chest share the work.
How to do it
Setup
Lying along a flat bench, feet planted, a shoulder-width grip, the bar over the chest on nearly straight arms.
Steps
- Lower the bar in an arc behind the head, elbows slightly bent.
- Stop when the arms line up with the torso.
- Pull the bar back along the same arc to above the chest.
Common mistakes
Bending the elbows as the bar goes back: the slight bend stays fixed. Ribs flaring and the back arching at the stretch: brace and keep the back on the bench. A bar too heavy to control overhead: go light; the stretch is the point.
Breathing
Deep inhale lowering behind the head, exhale pulling over.
