Barbell Preacher Curl

The preacher curl with a straight barbell instead of an EZ-bar; the wrists turn fully palms-up, which some find harder on the wrists.

How to do it

Setup

Seated at a preacher bench, armpits on the top of the pad, straight bar held underhand at shoulder width.

Steps

  1. Curl the bar up until the forearms stand vertical.
  2. Keep the backs of the arms flat on the pad.
  3. Lower slowly to arms that are nearly straight.

Common mistakes

Wrists aching with the straight bar: shift to an EZ-bar rather than bending them. Letting the bar drop the last inches: the stretched bottom is where the elbow is least protected; slow down there. Hips lifting off the seat to finish: sit down, go lighter.

Breathing

Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
