Barbell Narrow Row

The bent-over barbell row with the hands close together on the bar, which keeps the elbows tight along the body.

How to do it

Setup

Hinged to about 45°, back flat, knees soft, overhand grip with the hands close together.

Steps

  1. Pull the bar to the lower ribs, elbows brushing the sides.
  2. Hold the torso angle through the pull.
  3. Lower to long arms.

Common mistakes

Hands touching so the wrists bend: close, not touching. Rising with each rep: the hinge holds. Bar drifting forward off the thighs: keep it close to the legs.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
