Barbell Hip Thrust with Resistance Band

The barbell hip thrust with bands running from the bar's ends down to heavy anchors, so the resistance climbs as the hips rise.

How to do it

Setup

Upper back on the bench, padded bar over the hips, a band from each bar end to a heavy dumbbell on the floor.

Steps

  1. Check both bands are taut and even before the first rep.
  2. Drive the hips up to lockout against the growing pull.
  3. Lower under control; the bands pull you down faster than the bar alone.

Common mistakes

Uneven bands: the bar tilts; match the anchors on both sides. Anchors too light: they lift off the floor; use heavier ones. Rushing the way down: control it all the way.

Breathing

Exhale driving up, inhale lowering.
