Barbell Banded Squat

The back squat with bands pulling the bar's ends down from heavy anchors; the tension rises as you stand.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the upper back, a band from each end to an anchor at the floor.

Steps

  1. Squat to parallel with the bands at their slackest.
  2. Drive up hard as the bands tighten.
  3. Lock out against the peak tension.

Common mistakes

Bands uneven: the bar tilts; match the anchors on both sides. Letting the bands yank you down: control the descent. Easing off before lockout: that is where they pull hardest.

Breathing

Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
