Bar Band Standing Behind Head Military Press
The behind-the-head press with a bar whose bands run under the feet; the pull grows as the arms straighten, so the lockout is the hardest part.
How to do it
Setup
Standing on the bands, feet hip-width, the bar behind the head at the base of the neck, grip wider than the shoulders.
Steps
- Press the bar up against the bands to straight arms.
- Hold the lockout for a beat over the crown of the head.
- Lower it behind the head to about ear level.
Common mistakes
Bands slipping toward the toes: keep them under the middle of the feet. Letting the bands snap the bar down: lower it as slowly as it went up. Dropping it to the neck: ear level is deep enough behind the head.
Breathing
Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
