Band Shoulder Press

The standing overhead press against a band looped under both feet; the band pulls hardest at lockout, the point a dumbbell makes easiest.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on the band with both feet hip-width, the ends at the shoulders, palms forward.

Steps

  1. Press the hands straight up until the arms lock.
  2. Hold the top for a beat against the band's pull.
  3. Lower to the shoulders slowly, the band still taut.

Common mistakes

Band slipping out from under the feet: keep it under the middle of both feet. Letting the band snap the hands down: lower slower than you pressed. Arching back to finish: ribs down, glutes tight; take a lighter band.

Breathing

Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
