Band Upper Crunch

The crunch against a band anchored low behind the head: the hands hold the handles above the chest and the shoulders curl up against the pull.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on the back, knees bent, feet flat, head toward a band anchored low behind it, a handle in each hand above the chest.

Steps

  1. Curl the shoulders up as the hands reach toward the knees.
  2. Keep the arms long; the abs do the lifting.
  3. Lower slowly as the band pulls you back.

Common mistakes

Pulling the band with the arms: they only hold it. Lying too close to the anchor: slide away until the band is taut at the start. Letting the band drag you down fast: resist on the way back.

Breathing

Exhale on the crunch, inhale lowering.
