Band Standing Hip Extension

The standing kickback against a band looped around the ankle and anchored low in front; the band pulls hardest as the leg reaches back.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a low anchor with the band around one ankle, hands on the rack, standing on the other leg.

Steps

  1. Drive the banded leg straight back from the hip.
  2. Hold the end position with the glute squeezed.
  3. Let the leg return slowly against the band; finish the leg, switch.

Common mistakes

Arching the lower back to reach further: the glute ends the range. Letting the band snap the leg forward: control the return. Leaning on the rack: the hands only steady you.

Breathing

Exhale on the sweep, inhale returning.
