Assisted Standing Triceps Extension (With Towel)

The overhead triceps extension against a partner: a towel held behind the head, the partner behind pulls down on it while the arms straighten overhead.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a towel held in both hands behind the head, elbows up; a partner stands behind holding the towel's middle.

Steps

  1. Straighten the arms overhead against the partner's pull.
  2. Keep the elbows pointing up and close to the head.
  3. Bend the elbows slowly as the partner draws the towel back down.

Common mistakes

A partner pulling in jerks: agree on a steady pull that still lets the arms finish. Arching the lower back to win the rep: ribs down, glutes tight. Elbows flaring out: keep them by the ears.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale extending.
