Twist Squat
A squat with the arms held straight out in front: as the hips sink, the chest and the arms turn to one side, and the next rep turns the other way; the feet and knees stay facing forward.
How to do it
Setup
Feet a little wider than the shoulders, toes slightly out, arms straight out in front at chest height, hands together.
Steps
- Squat down and turn the chest and the arms to one side as you sink.
- Keep the knees over the toes and the hips facing forward.
- Stand as you turn back to the middle, then squat turning the other way.
Common mistakes
Knees swinging with the turn: they stay over the toes; only the chest turns. Heels lifting as you rotate: keep the whole foot down. Arms dropping: keep them at chest height so the turn comes from the trunk.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
