Straight-Leg Dead Bug

The dead bug with the legs held straight up and lowered straight; the long leg is a heavier lever than a bent knee, so the back has to work harder to stay down.

How to do it

Setup

On your back, arms to the ceiling, both legs straight up over the hips, lower back pressed down.

Steps

  1. Lower one straight leg and the opposite arm toward the floor.
  2. Stop before the lower back peels up.
  3. Lift them back and switch the diagonal.

Common mistakes

Knee bending to make it easier: the leg stays straight; lower it less instead. Back arching at the bottom: the range ends where the back would leave the floor. Both legs drifting down: the other leg stays vertical.

Breathing

Exhale lowering the limbs, inhale returning.
