Standing Leg Resting Hip Stretch

Holding a bench backrest with both hands, one ankle rests on the standing knee and the hips sit back; the buttock of the crossed leg stretches with the balance taken care of.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a bench backrest, both hands on it, one ankle crossed over the standing knee.

Steps

  1. Bend the standing knee and sit the hips back as if onto a chair.
  2. Keep the chest up and the crossed knee open to the side.
  3. Hold and breathe; rise before changing legs.

Common mistakes

Pulling on the backrest to sit lower: the hands only steady you. Rounding the back to go deeper: lift the chest and hinge at the hips. Standing knee caving in: keep it over the toes.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
