Smith Machine Reverse Hyperextension

Face down on a bench inside the Smith machine, the soles press the bar up as the bent legs rise from below the bench to its line.

How to do it

Setup

Face down on a flat bench in the Smith machine, hips at its end, knees bent, the bar on the safety stops above the soles.

Steps

  1. Press the bar off the stops by lifting the thighs, the soles flat under it.
  2. Stop when the thighs are level with the bench.
  3. Lower slowly until the bar settles back on the stops.

Common mistakes

Relying on the hooks: face down the hands cannot reach the bar, so work off the safety stops. Arching the lower back at the top: stop with the thighs level. Feet sliding off the bar: keep the soles flat and centered under it.

Breathing

Exhale driving up, inhale lowering.
