Single-Leg Calf Raise

One foot on a step, the other hooked behind; bodyweight alone is plenty at first.

Single-Leg Calf Raise, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Ball of one foot on a step, the other foot hooked behind the ankle; hand on a support.

Steps

  1. Rise on the single leg to the top.
  2. Pause.
  3. Lower to a deep stretch.

Common mistakes

Pushing off the support hand: it balances, not lifts. Rolling to the outside of the foot: press through the big-toe side. Uneven leg volume: start with the weaker leg.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
