Safety Bar Elevated Heel Squat
The heel-elevated squat under a safety squat bar: the padded yoke sits on the shoulders and the hands hold its handles in front, so the shoulders need no reach back.
How to do it
Setup
Yoke on the upper back, hands on the handles in front, heels on a slant board, feet shoulder-width.
Steps
- Squat as deep as the heels stay on the board.
- Hold the handles down so the bar does not tip forward.
- Drive up with the upper back pressed into the pad.
Common mistakes
Letting the handles float: the camber tips the bar forward; pull them down. Rounding the upper back under the pad: push it up into the yoke. Rising onto the toes at the bottom: the board lifts the heels already; keep them on it.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
