Resistance Band Squat

A bodyweight squat with a loop band just above the knees; pushing the knees out against it keeps them tracking over the toes and brings in the side glutes.

How to do it

Setup

Feet hip-width, a loop band just above the knees, hands clasped at the chest.

Steps

  1. Push the knees out into the band and sit the hips down and back.
  2. Lower until the thighs are about level, the band taut the whole way.
  3. Drive up and keep the knees pressing out to the top.

Common mistakes

Knees caving into the band: the band is there to be pushed against; press out. Band rolling up or down the thighs: set it just above the knees. Heels lifting at the bottom: sit back and keep the whole foot down.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
